Keeping Green: Raising Awareness on the Palestinian Environment

Environmental issues are often perceived as a secondary priority among Palestinians, and information regarding environmental issues is only scarcely available to the public and to researchers. MA’AN Development Center , who has been a partner of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Ramallah for many years, is providing regular and up-to-date information about environmental and agricultural issues, in addition to conducting awareness raising activities which provide the impetus for discussion and debate.

To reach all sections of society, MA’AN uses a wide range of different media formats to make the information accessible. For instance, the Center publishes a monthly online magazine on environmental and related issues in Palestine, and produces regular televised panel discussions and magazine episodes in cooperation with Wattan TV.

The “Online Green Magazine”, as an alternative environmental media, is considered to be the only comprehensive professional and scientific environmental magazine in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and it is one of the strongest environmental sites in the Arab region. The online and TV magazines serve to generate a debate on the local media, community and academic levels through their diverse environmental information, which also features contributions from Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Egypt.
